Day 95: NLI Legendary Competitor Dynasty II - FlashBack Friday

Tomorrow, NoX Training will have several athletes compete at the Next Level Invitational/Legendary Competitor Dynasty II.

I started looking back at previous competitions and came across the Next Level Invitational 2011 Winter Series photos/videos. This competition marks the first competition series that NoX had several athletes compete in. In addition this was also my first ever CrossFit competition.

The first event in August of 2011 caught me by surprise. I had been CrossFitting for about a little over 2 months at the time and thought I was in great shape to be able to if not win, get real close to it. I ended up getting almost last place and had no clue what had hit me.

There were 2 months separating the first and second event. The failure of the first event made me train harder than I had trained in my whole life. I trained harder those 2 months than any other competition my whole life. I competed in Track in field since age 7 and have no trained as hard as I did over the 15+ years of that sport...I think it is mainly due to how disappointed I was in myself.
In 2 months I went from almost last place to Winning the 2nd event in the series.

After the 3rd and Final event in the series I ended up placing 9th in the Intermediate Division out of all 3 events combined.

There will be many 1st Timers competing for NoX Training and I just want to wish everyone luck. No matter what the outcome is just know that you gave it your all. If you are not happy with your performance, step back, reflect on your training, and go back to work to better yourself. If any of you do better than you expect or as good as you want, still walk away with wanting to get better. Never stop getting better! I have never walked away from a CrossFit competition 100% satisfied with the way I performed. There were always times where I wanted to do better. No matter if this is your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, or 10th CrossFit competition you should use it as a learning experience. A CrossFit competiton is a great way to learn about yourself that you cannot learn in any other experience. This is why I recommend everyone compete in a CrossFit competition at least 2 times in his or her lifetime (one time for experience and at least one time for redemption).
